Naturally - Wild Persimmons
Persimmons
grow on trees and are generally plentiful in the southern regions
of the United States.
Wild persimmons inhibit a spicy-sweet
flavor when fully ripened. The unripened fruit will have a person
doing the 'Pucker Lip Shuffle" so avoid at all risks!
The culprit behind the 'pucker'
is tannin which is present in the immature fruit. By the time that
the fruit ripens, the tannin's powers have virtually dissipated.
Frost is not necessary for ripening
purposes, but it tends to coincide with the maturing of the fruit.
Persimmons are lovely with prepared
with sugar and cream. They also work well as a pudding.
